As Hurricane Isaac slams into the Gulf Coast, linemen from several states and cooperatives are being sent down to the areas to help repair lines and restore electricity to the region. With the news reporting more than 545,000 homes without power and more outages expected, utility linemen are part of the disaster recovery efforts.

The Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina sent crews from several cooperatives to assist with the repairs in Louisiana, while Wiregrass Electric Cooperative sent a four-man crew to Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association in Natchez.

According to an article on Electric Co-op Today, helping neighboring states “…is one of our basic cooperative principles in action.”
