Years as a Lineman: 28 years
Joe is a second generation lineman. He got his work
ethic and his inspiration from his father who was a
Lineman for 44 years.
"I knew all about the long nights, cold winters,
hot summers, missed holidays, and time away from family.
But I knew this is what I wanted to do from a very young
age. Out in the backyard climbing the swing-set made
from poles and cross arms. With hooks and a belt that
I somehow made (almost) fit. There was no turning back,"
Joe explained.
Joe attend college and entered the workforce shortly
after graduation. He went to work through LU141 as a
“grunt” for a couple of contractors before
ultimately landing my dream job with The Ohio Power
Company. He transferred to LU 696 and progressed through
the ranks of Lineman D, C, B and finally topping out
as a Lineman A. He is now entering his 28th year with
AEP Ohio.
He has worked many hours of trouble and storm work;
whether it is locally or around the country. From ice
storms in Canada or Hurricanes along the East Cost and
the Gulf of Mexico. All with a great sense of pride
where he could stand tall and be proud to be a Lineman.
He believes none of this would be possible without
the love and support from his family. They know when
the weather turns bad; that Dad will probably not be
home, but they are proud of what he does, keeping the
power on.
"We as Lineman are often taken for granted, being
the guys with a truck just “parked on the side
of the road”, not knowing we are down or up the
hill in the right-of-way working, or the truck that
sits at the local restaurant while we get a bite to
eat and a hot cup of coffee and try to refuel ourselves
to get back out on the road to restore more power to
our customers." he stated. Joe loves being a Lineman
and wouldn't want to be doing anything else.
He is honored to be working with Huskie Tools and others,
to help the industry in any way. He loves to share his
ideas about existing tools, new tools, those that work
and maybe some that need improvement.
